How to Tell a Real Track Record From a Screenshot

ELSE Markets Research · September 30, 2026 · 5 min read

A real track record is live, long, complete and verified by an independent third party. A screenshot is a single moment someone chose to show you.

Why screenshots don't count

A screenshot shows one moment, on one account, chosen by the person selling you something. It hides losing periods, closed accounts and the overall timeline. Backtests have a similar problem: they're built with hindsight.

What a credible record looks like

Before trusting any performance number, check for these:

  • Live trading, not simulated or backtested results
  • Independent third-party tracking connected directly to the account
  • A long history: many months and thousands of trades
  • Every trade included, winners and losers
  • Clear risk figures, including drawdown

Questions to ask

How long has this exact system traded live? How many trades is the record based on? Is it tracked by a third party with direct account access? What was the worst drawdown? Anyone confident in their record should answer all of these directly.
